How old were you when you had your first kiss? Was it just a peck on the cheek, or was there more to it?

Writer's Block: Be Gone

May. 6th, 2012 | 07:58 am

What celebrity or other public figure would you be perfectly happy to never see or hear anything about ever again in your lifetime? Why do they annoy you so much?

Scratching Vinyl (2);

Friday was a long day.

After a school day of being singled out by sitting in the front and copying from Confetti's messy paper, Melody kneeled on the family couch, trying hard not to strain at her surrounds lest she hurt her eyes. She heard Treble alternate between tapping on a drum and banging on a piano.

She listened closely.."If you're trying to play 'Fillyharmony's Lullabye', you're playing an A where a B Flat should go."

He groaned. "No one asked you!" he said, before going back to the off tune.

Moments later,"...Um, what's the flat note again?"

The unicorn did a quick internal count. "Five notes in -"

The door opened with the tinkle of a bell. Treble and Melody's father, Short Sighted, came in "Mel! I've bought something for you, come here!"

Due to his fault in the accident, Choira had appointed Treble as Melody's seeing-eye assistant. He plodded into the room, tugged his sister's tail, and together they walked into the kitchen. Short Sighted was a gray-flanked colt with short white hair and large cokebottle glasses. "Had a good day, dear?" He asked.

"Not quite," Melody replied. They spotted a large pearly gray box on the table - in her case, a smudge. "What's in that?" Asked Treble, trying hard to lift it with magic.

Sighted unlatched it and lifted the cover.

Purple, oval-shaped glass was surrounded by thick black frames. Melody stared at them. "Do you like them?"

"Er..."

"Put 'em on!" cried Treble, resuming his struggle.

"They did look better on the mannequin." Shrugged Sighted. "Give them a try."

Slowly, she lifted them to her face. Instantly, the kitchen came into sharp focus. Surprisingly, nothing was in a purple tint. When she voiced this, her father beamed "We did it in the lab for you. What do you think?"

"They match your mane an' tail!"

They did very well match her mane and tail of alternating electric and navy blue. Although slightly big, it was just such a joy to have her vision fully restored and saw that, yes, these glasses did look far better on her face - and leaps and bounds better than her old granny glasses.

"They're smashtastic! I love them, thank you!" She pulled her brother along by the tail, shouting "Let's go play that piece right! If the great Strings Concordia could hear you, why, the mare would weep!"

Treble had taken her glasses and ran to the attic.

Melody could hardly see with them, but without them? In the dark? That rendered her visibility to nearly nothing nothing but blurs.  She held her head out, horn forward, to warn of potential obstacles, for her magic was weak from plinking on a keyboard all day.

After slowly making her way up the steps, she saw a black smudge between two cheerful yellow walls - the attic door was ajar.

She poked her head through, and was rewarded with shrieking laughter "Haha, it's a game, Melly!"

Melody growled and stomped a hoof. "What do I gotta do? It better take a while, because I'll kill you when we're through!"

"Stop using your horn's glow." Not like it helped. She complied, and took a few steps forward.

"Trebs! Hand 'em over, this isn't funny!"

There was muffled giggling, then "Two steps forward. Then -"

crunch.

"Maybe just one step."

Snout nearly to the ground, Looking closely, Melody could see her glasses, small half-circles that looked like something an elder pony would wear, the sides twisted awkwardly. Smashed in the middle.

"Treble!" Throwing caution away, she charged forward, knocking down unpacked boxes, furious, not stopping until her brother said
something - A shriek of fright as he fell from his hiding place.

When their mother returned from the market, Melody had dragged Treble by the tail and held him down in the kitchen and awaited her.

"What is this? Melody, where are your glasses?"

"In the attic. In a pile of shards!"

Choira sighed, and told Treble to put away the groceries, that their father would come home to deal with him. "Sit here, Melody," She said, directing her to the living room. "We'll find something to do."

Writer's Block: Length Matters

Apr. 5th, 2012 | 08:25 am

pottersues.livejournal.com. Since early 2009, I think. It's the only reason I made a LJ. It had already been here since 04, so I thought I was pretty late on things, but it's still going.

Which LiveJournal community have you been a member of the longest? How many years (or months, for our newer users) have you been a member? If the community is public, link to a recent entry or two that shows why you've stayed involved.
